Action On Mental Health

Our Mission

To help improve lives and our community by providing a safe and structured work-based learning environment, where we teach craft skills which helps develop a sense of social inclusion for all our beneficiaries.

The Issues

Depressed looking person

4 to 10% of people in Essex will experience mental illness in their lifetime.

Common mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts can affect you and your family at anytime.

Mixed anxiety and depression have been estimated to cause one fifth of days lost from work in the UK. One of the major causes of social isolation today.

High rates of suicide exist currently in our local community and in some areas above the national average.

How We Create Change

We provide a safe, structured therapeutic work based environment which enables each beneficiary to build their individual capacity and workplace skills.

By fostering and developing group working, the beneficiaries increase in self worth, self confidence and ability, while reducing their isolation in society. In addition it empowers them to fully participate in their community, enabling them to reach their full potential.

Leading to:

  • Further Education
  • Increased Employment opportunities

Making The Difference

The therapy, sense of satisfaction, and well-being the beneficiaries work provides helps not only bring transformation to the projects they work on, but also to their lives.

As well as hands-on practical training, we also aim to provide Business and IT skills to increase employability for our beneficiaries.

In addition, we improve the environment by recycling unwanted furniture.
